Dial-up Setup
Click the Apple in the upper left hand corner, go to System Preferences.
In the "System Preferences" window click on the "Network" icon.
In the "Show" box, choose Internal Modem.
On the TCP/IP tab, the "Configure" box should say "Using PPP".
"IP Address", "Subnet Mask", and "Router" should all say "Provided by PPP server" or remain blank.
The two boxes, "Domain Name Servers" and "Search Domains" should both remain blank.
Click the "PPP" Tab.
The "Service Provider" box should say "IowaTelecom.net". In the "Telephone Number" box, type the 7-digit, local dialup telephone number provided to you by Iowa Telecom.
Leave the "Alternate Number" box blank. In "Account Name" type your IowaTelecom.net username. This will be your IowaTelecom.net e-mail address (ie. its@iowatelecom.net).
Type your password in the "Password" box. This will be provided to you on your account information sheet. You may click Save password if you want your computer to remember your password for you.
Click on the PPP Options... button. Put checkmarks in "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications", "Disconnect when user logs out", and "Redial if busy". In the "Redial" box, put "1" times. In the "Wait" box, put "30" seconds before redialing. Click OK.
Click the Apply Now button and you are ready to connect to the Internet!
Change Your Dial-up Number
Click the Apple in the upper left hand corner, go to System Preferences.
In the "System Preferences" window click on the "Network" icon.
In the "Show" box, choose Internal Modem.
Click the "PPP" Tab.
In the "Telephone Number" box, type the 7-digit, local dialup telephone number provided to you by Iowa Telecom.
Click the Apply Now button and you are ready to connect to the Internet!
DSL Setup
Click the Apple in the upper left hand corner, go to "System Preferences".
In the "System Preferences" window click on the "Network" icon.
In the "Show" box, choose "Built-in Ethernet".
On the TCP/IP tab, the "Configure" box should say "Using DHCP".
"IP Address", "Subnet Mask", and "Router" should all say "Provided by PPP server" or remain blank .
The two boxes, "DNS Servers" and "Search Domains" should both remain blank.
Click on the "Apply Now" button if you made changes and you are ready to connect to the Internet! |
